Dalton Paula é o novo artista representado pela Cerrado Galeria
É com grande entusiasmo que anunciamos a representação de Dalton Paula (Brasília,1982), cujas obras investigam as representações de corpos negros na diáspora africana. Por meio de seu trabalho, o artista tece curas simbólicas, que perpassam o campo histórico-social, econômico e psíquico.
Seu processo de pesquisa passa pelo contexto dos terreiros, quilombos, subúrbios e festejos tradicionais e se desdobra para o quilombo escola, onde ações artísticas e educativas atuam no fortalecimento da comunidade, construindo um lugar poderoso de emancipação e autonomia dos sujeitos.
Em 2023, Paula recebeu o Prêmio Soros Arts Fellowship da Open Society Foundation; em 2022, fez a exposição "Rota do Algodão" na Pinacoteca de São Paulo e a individual "Retratos Brasileiros" no MASP. Em 2021, participou da exposição "Enciclopédia Negra", na Pinacoteca de São Paulo; no ano de 2020, fez sua primeira exposição individual "Dalton Paula: o sequestrador de Almas", em Nova York, na Alexander and Bonin Gallery. Em 2019, foi um dos cinco premiados da 7ª edição do Prêmio CNI SESI SENAI Marcantonio Vilaça para as Artes Plásticas; expôs no "36º Panorama da Arte Brasileira: Sertão", no Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo (MAM). Em 2018, foi selecionado para a Trienal "Songs for Sabotage" do New Museum em Nova York/EUA. Também integrou a 11ª Bienal de Artes Visuais do Mercosul - "O Triângulo Atlântico", em Porto Alegre/RS; e teve trabalhos na exposição "Histórias Afro-Atlânticas" (MASP e Instituto Tomie Ohtake). Em 2017, participou da exposição "The Atlantic Triangle" (Instituto Goethe, Lagos/Nigéria) e, no ano de 2016, foi um dos artistas convidados para a 32ª Bienal de São Paulo.
O artista vive e trabalha em Goiânia/GO; é bacharel em Artes Visuais, educador e idealizador do Sertão Negro Ateliê e Escola de Artes, criado em 2021.

Cerrado Galeria announces the representation of Dalton Paula
It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the representation of Dalton Paula (Brasília, 1982), whose works investigate representations of black bodies in the African diaspora. Through his work, the artist weaves symbolic healing that transcends the historical-social, economic, and psychic realms.
His research process delves into the contexts of terreiros (places of worship in Afro-Brazilian religions), quilombos (traditional Afro-Brazilian communities), suburbs, and traditional celebrations, unfolding into the quilombo school. Here, artistic and educational actions contribute to strengthening the community, building a powerful space for the emancipation and autonomy of individuals.
In 2023, Paula received the Soros Arts Fellowship from the Open Society Foundation. In 2022, he presented the exhibition "Rota do Algodão" at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo and the solo show "Retratos Brasileiros" at MASP. In 2021, he participated in the exhibition "Enciclopédia Negra" at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo. In 2020, his first solo exhibition, "Dalton Paula: o sequestrador de Almas," took place in New York at the Alexander and Bonin Gallery. He also participated in the 11th Visual Arts Biennial of Mercosur - "The Atlantic Triangle" in Porto Alegre, RS, and had works in the exhibition "Histórias Afro-Atlânticas" (MASP and Instituto Tomie Ohtake). In 2017, he participated in the exhibition "The Atlantic Triangle" at the Goethe Institute in Lagos, Nigeria, and in 2016, he was one of the invited artists for the 32nd São Paulo Biennial.
The artist lives and works in Goiânia/GO; he holds a degree in Visual Arts, is an educator, and is the creator of Sertão Negro Ateliê and Escola de Artes, established in 2021.
